Love / Hate Relationship

Saw my old friend last night at the pool. Got my kids down to their end of the pool for swim lessons and on my way down to my end I spotted him. He was smug and expressionless. I looked in the other direction as I walked passed him. I didn't even want to acknowledge his presence. Ugh, I remember when we were friends but in Boston, I think he was literally laughing at me at points. He was in no way helpful to me.

As I swam, I could see him and was reminded of when we got along. How I would be so happy to see him after a race. How quickly things change. But I'm not one to hold a grudge. I know the day is coming when I will be glad to see him again. I will welcome his presence at each mile marker and embrace him at the finish line. I'm looking forward to that day when I call the clock my friend again.

I agree totally with Doug, race with your heart no matter how you finish it will be well worth it at the end...

I actually thought the post was directed at somebody... silly me..

You're killing me...your Boston race wasn't so bad!!! (it can't be, that would make my time bad!) Stop being so hard on yourself.

You have to remember, the "conditions" in a pool are almost always constant: no rain, no wind, no hills, no waves. Out on a marathon course during a nor' easter - well, you do the best you can.
